The 2020 W&M Student Literary Awards
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
Welcome to William & Mary's annual student literary awards contest. Every year, we look forward to reading your work and marveling at the range and breadth of creative writing happening at William & Mary. Once again, first-place winners in each category will receive $200; second place nets $100; and third place gets $50.
Categories include Single Poem; Group of Poems (3-5 pieces); Short Fiction; Creative Nonfiction; and Drama/Screenwriting.
The top three entries in each category (synopses for the drama category) will also be published in an anthology booklet.
This year's contest will open for submissions on February 14, 2020. All entries must be received by 11:59 pm EST on March 6, 2020.
Here are the rules:
• Open to all students. Any currently enrolled undergraduate W&M student is eligible to enter.
• All entrants may submit one entry in each category. (If you try to sneak in two for the same category, both entries will be disqualified.)
• Your name should not appear on your manuscript. Judging is anonymous, and done by outside judges.
• It's okay to submit work that has appeared in student publications.
Contrary to what Submittable might suggest, you do not need to write a cover letter or bio. No judges will see it.
If you need to withdraw a submission, there's no need to give a reason. We don't read anything until all the entries are in and the contest has closed.
The contest closes at the exact stroke of 11:59 pm EST on March 6. No late entries will be accepted.
Finalists will be announced in advance of the awards ceremony.
Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at 5:00 pm on Thursday, April 9, 2020 in Tucker Theatre. The ceremony is free and open to all, and followed by a reception with snacks.
